Non-stop from Hawaii to Egypt

On Friday morning October 6, 1946 at 05.51 a US Air Force Boeing B29 Superfortress called "Pacusan Dream boat" took off from Hickam airfield, Honolulu, Hawaii and flew non-stop to Cairo in Egypt.

With the Crew of 9 men, piloted by and under command of Colonel Clarance S Irvine, the aircraft took off from Hawaii at 05.51 on Friday morning.

The aircraft was specially equipped, with helium gas in the tires to lighten the load. However flying over the arctic region, raising a storm, it had no De-icing equipment.

At take off, the aircraft held a total load of 12,000 US Gallon of fuel, the heaviest fuel load ever carried on a B29.

After a 8000 ft or 2433 m take off run, the aircraft flew north, along the coast of Alaska, on to the magnetic North Pole, over Greenland, Iceland, England, France, Italy.

Finally landing in Egypt on Sunday after 39.5 hours in the air, covering a distance of 17 498 kilometers or 10,873 miles, with an average speed of 442,99 Km/hr or 275,27 mph.
