Focke-Wulf fly non-stop Berlin to New York

On August 10-11, 1938, a Focke-Wulf 200 Condor airliner made a nonstop trans- atlantic flight from Berlin to Floyd Bennett field in Brooklyn, New York.

The Fw 200 was the first land based aircraft to fly nonstop between Berlin and New York City, making the flight on 10 August 1938. The flight took 24 hours and 56 minutes. The return flight on 13 August 1938 took 19 hours and 47 minutes. The aircraft was a Fw 200 VI, registered as D-ACON and named “Brandenburg.”

The 4,075 miles or 6437 km flight took 24 hours and 57 minutes against strong headwinds, at an average speed of 164 MPH or 263 km/h. The return flight to Germany took 19 hours and 47 minutes at an average speed of 205 MPH or 330 km/h on August 13, 1938.
